Llano: Three Biographies About One Town is a book I created in Winter 2009. It contains a series of self conducted interviews, exerpts from published documents, historical journals and documentation, original and archival photography, as well as a forward written by myself. An obsticle in the construction of this book was approaching a very large body of text in a way that it is not intimidating to read. The solution used was to use different "layers of engagement", The most direct being photography. Behind that, highlights of the information on each page are used somewhat like pull-quotes in a magazine, inviting the reader to investigate the entire story behind the exerpt. The highlighted exerpts can also function as an abbreviated version of the books contents. The bottom of the spread holds journal and editorial entries that coincide with the time being portrayed in the biographical document. |
